Best. Day. Ever!  Emily got her braces off today!

Here is a quick pic from where we started in January 2021...

This is a picture from this morning in the car before we headed out to the orthodontist....

Here she is when the magic was happening...

AND THE FINAL RESULT (complete with one well-earned treat bucket)!

Disney on Ice

Saturday, February 11, 2023

Today was Disney on Ice day and we could not have been more excited.  We brought Heidi along with us again this year which made the day extra fun.  We started with lunch at Chili's in the mall and then headed over to the convention center to find our seats...front row again!

The first number featured all the fab 5, of course.  Mickey never fails to bring down the house.

The next number was Beauty & The Beast (a favorite of mine).

Next up was Tangled with Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder (another one I really love).

Kind of like the Fab 5, no Disney on Ice show is complete without a cameo by Cinderella.

The next story was Frozen (of course).  Frozen was clearly a crowd favorite.

The final show was from Moana, one of the more recent Disney movies about a girl who is called to the ocean even though she is warned of the danger.

For the finale, all the Disney characters made one last appearance.  This was a great show and we had a blast.  Can't wait until they come back next winter!

February Canaan Trip

Saturday, February 3, 2023

Since we missed the January trip, I was looking forward to this one.  And this time, for the first time, Grandma Heintz got to come too.  We left for the mountains on Friday afternoon right after lunch. Emily was our chauffeur for the first 2 hours of the trip.

After a quick stop at Tip Top in Elkins, we arrived at Canaan about 4pm. That gave us time to get us checked into the lodge and get Emily moved into the cabin.  Then it was time for the Friday evening show!

On Saturday morning, the kids sleep in a bit in the cabin but Grandma and I were up and ready, so we made a trip to Blackwater Falls so she could see the ice and the waterfall.  It's so pretty there and we had a great time.

After our waterfall adventure, it was time to meet up with the skaters at Tip Top for some hot chocolate and treats and a little shopping.  Grandma's favorite stop was the little Christmas shop.  See her little bag?

After treats and shopping it was time to head back to the rink for the afternoon show.  It was a little warmer this afternoon which was nice, but it was also a little windy.  Everyone skated well and there was a nice little audience too.

Grandma and I headed back to Davis after the show to grab some lunch.  The kids went back to the cabin to relax, play and snack.  The time goes so fast on this trip and before we knew it, the time had come for the evening show.  Below is grandma pictured getting warmed by the fire before we headed out into the cold.  But, the show was great, and the crowd was big, so it was a great night and a wonderful end to another Canaan trip!

Winter Formal 2023

Saturday, January 21, 2023

Tonight was Emily's first winter formal at GW and she was super excited to be going with Caleb and a group of his friends.  We didn't get a lot of notice for this event, but luckily, she was able to find a dress online that she really liked and that I really liked too - very classy in navy blue lace.  Then, for accessories we headed up to Yarid's and got some gorgeous gold shoes and a gold purse.  She looked terrific!
The kids wanted to meet up at the Capitol for pictures before the dance, so we met there about 4:30.  Emily spotted Caleb right away.  He got her the prettiest bouquet of flowers and she had a boutonniere for him.

We probably took pictures for a good 45 minutes.  I was surprised the kids lasted that long since it was only about 38 degrees, but they seemed ok for the most part and they really seemed to be enjoying themselves, so we just kept snapping. They had a group of 10 which was a pretty good size.  They didn't all know each other real well before the evening began, but I am certain by the end of the night they knew each other well.

After pictures, the kids were headed to Soho's for dinner (pasta for Emily - yay!) and then on to the dance at 7:30.  From what I was able to gather when Emily got home that night, they had a great time!

We couldn't let the moment pass without grabbing a pic with mom and dad, too.  And I do believe my attire for the evening accurately represents the temperature that evening.
