Emily has a book called "Emily's Balloon." It is a very cute story about a little girl who makes friends with a helium balloon that her mother tied to a spoon (so it would not fly away.) Emily's balloon in the story is yellow, but check out my little Emily with her pink balloon at her birthday party. This is too funny!
PARTY!

We had a birthday party for Emily in Charleston this weekend. We were fortunate to have Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Nathan host our big event. Grandma and Grandpa Heintz came along with Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Nathan, Ben, Lauren, Patti and Nancy. Much fun was had by all. After watching her enjoy the turkey hat at Thanksgiving, I was pretty sure a birthday party hat would be a hit. I was right. Plus, look how cute the little hat is!! As you will see from these pictures, Emily actually picked up her piece of cake and ate it this time. Grandma Heintz also gave her some ice cream. So she had the full birthday experience. As you can see, she also got more presents! She got more toys and clothes. Again, she was much more interested in her new toys than the clothes...except for this one pair of socks. She loved this one pair of socks... I just don't understand how she could not LOVE clothes...now I have to question whether she is really MY baby. I must teach her the wonders of the shopping mall. Luckily, Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Nathan bought her "My First Purse" so she is well on her way to learning!
Emily's Birthday!

She's ONE! Emily turned one year old on Wednesday, December 10. We celebrated that evening by having her favorite meal - mac-n-cheese - followed by a yummy cupcake with pink frosting. She did not really eat the cupcake or the frosting (daddy now questions whether she is really his baby). In fact, she got pretty upset that the frosting would not come off her hands! She cried shortly after the photo above was taken. Immediately after the cupcake we had to hose her down in the bathtub. She had frosting everywhere! After a bath and pajamas, we opened some of her presents. We also saved some to take to her party in Charleston over the weekend. She had a great time opening the packages and really, really loved the bows! She got some new clothes, books, toys, a Target gift card and a nice warm crib sheet for her bed. Surprisingly, she was not nearly as excited about the crib sheet as she was the little talking big toy and pull-along snail! She had a big time with her gifts. Good thing she had a few days to rest up before her party in Charleston!First Thanksgiving Meal

We had our family Thanksgiving meal on Friday night since Daniel worked on Thanksgiving Day. Uncle Scott and Aunt Karen came too. We had turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, corn pudding, crescent rolls, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for dessert. Emily had a little bit of everything except the dressing and potatoes (she does not like potatoes or french fries). The cranberry sauce was a big hit...and a big mess. She ended up with cranberry sauce and corn pudding in her hair and on her turkey hat. Nonetheless, from this picture you can certainly see that she had a good meal...at least the part that wasn't in her bib, on her lap, on the floor or in her hair.
Emily helps on Thanksgiving
Here is a quick clip of Emily in her turkey hat helping on Thanksgiving. She has had a fun day so far. We are exploring all the fun things in the kitchen. So far we have found the strainer, wisk, large ladle, sink stopper and some pots and pans. Tonight we are going to the hospital to have dinner in the cafeteria with daddy. He got a special $6.25 gift card to spend in the cafeteria since he had to work on Thanksgiving. Oooo!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I'm Walking! I'm Walking!!

Well, it is official. Emily is walking. She toddles around all over the place. We can't take our eyes off of her for even one second or, well, she ends up carrying around daddy's dirty tennis shoes. It is fun to watch her learning to step over things, stop regain her balance, bend down to get toys and just generally walk around. Toward the later parts of the evening she really struggles. She sort of just staggers around like she's had one too many. We have some video of her new skill, but are having trouble figuring out how to edit it down for posting. Stay tuned.
Giddie Up!!

Emily has really been enjoying her newest toy. When Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Nathan came to visit last week they brought her this cute little ride-on horse and Emily really likes it. She hasn't figured out exactly how to "ride" it yet, but she can sit on it and push it around by its head. It even plays cute little cowgirl songs when pushed, like "Oh Susanna." Very fun.
Hello?

It is amazing how much Emily is learning. She has completely mastered the concept of the telephone. We first realized this about a week ago when Uncle Scott called. We held the phone to her ear and she immediately got very quiet. You could see her eyes just looking all around and she was clearly listening. The next night, Grandma Heintz was on the phone so we showed her the phone again she this time she listened for a minute then started babbling away. Now we have shown her how to talk on her play phone. On Thursday night, Uncle Nathan and Aunt Bonnie called to make final plans for their trip here this weekend (We had a blast, by the way.) So this time we gave Emily her phone so she could talk too! Just look at the results! Too funny.
Standing Around

Emily is getting really close to walking! She has been standing on her own for a while and tonight she took about 5 steps on her own. Of course she was motivated to get to my car keys that I was dangling out of reach, but whatever... She is doing really good!! I feel certain that we will be posting video footage of her walking in no time!
Park Trip
Grandma and grandpa Heintz visited this past weekend. The weather was beautiful so we made a trip to the park. Emily loves to go to the park because she LOVES to see the dogs that come to walk their owners. Every dog that trots by is exciting. In fact, I think she was looking at one coming down the path when we shot this picture. She makes this kind of laugh/oooo noise. It is cute, but I'm afraid I can't do the noise justice by writing it out. By the way, check out her new ride!
Happy Halloween!
Welcome to Emily's Blog!
Our family is entering the 21st century as we try out this blog as a way to keep everyone informed about Emily's life and adventures. I am still new to this, but I will do my best to post neat stuff here (that you can actually see and open) about Emily since everyone is so far away and does not get to see her often. E-mailing pics is not great since you can only send a couple at a time and we can only share about 10 seconds of video so maybe this will be a better way to share stuff with everyone. We hope you enjoy coming here often for Fun With Emily!
