Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field

As soon as Disney on Ice was over Emily and I headed straight to Lexington, KY for her next USFS test. She tested her pre-juvenile moves back in October at our rink, but did not pass.  So we were off to try again in  Lexington.

We met Kelsie at the hotel and all went to dinner together at Fazoli's before her ice dance tests.  While walking back to the car, Emily found a $2 bill in the parking lot!  Wow!  Talk about luck!!

Then it was time to watch Kelsie test, practice a little during public session and then get to bed.  5:00 am was going to be VERY early in the morning.

Luckily, on competition and test days, Emily gets up pretty well and we arrived at the rink about 6:15.  Plenty of time to stretch and warm up.

Then Emily was the third skater in her group.  She looked so much stronger this time and her edges looked very clean.  She didn't put a foot down this time either so we were hopeful.  We didn't have to wait long to get the good news.  SHE PASSED!!!  And so did three of the four she tested with.  So exciting!!!

Then it was back to the hotel to celebrate...at the pool of course.  Kelsie passed her first dance test the night before so we all had reason to celebrate.

And the celebration continued on the way home with a stop at Dairy Queen for a Blizzard.  All in all, it was a pretty awesome weekend.  Now, we sleep...

Disney on Ice

One of Emily's Christmas presents was front row tickets to Disney on Ice - complete with an extra ticket for a friend - Reagan.  This year the show was all based around Frozen so I was especially looking forward to it.

The show opened with a collection of the usual Disney characters followed by the main event -  Frozen!  Yay!  It was a great show and we all loved every minute!

   

   

Workshop with Disney on Ice

The skaters from Disney on Ice came back to our rink again this year to do a workshop with the Club.  We were super excited because apparently they usually don't come two years in a row. 

Just like last year, they broke the kids up into three groups and taught them little pieces of choreography from the show.  Then after the workshop, there was a big pot luck dinner and the skaters stayed and ate with our Club members.  They were really great with the kids.  Such a fun night!

This is another kind of random selection of photos from things that have happened this month.  None of them really merit a post of their own, but I hated to leave them out.  So, here we go!

Emily had to make a 3-D model of an eye and label seven parts.  She just got her grade back today and she got a 100%!  Yay Emily!

Here are a few pics of what it's like to have a tween.  Face masks, hair dos and relaxing time.

And llamacorns??? Yep, she's into the llamacorn at Justice and also unicorns and narhwals.  Who'd have thought?

Finally, we've been enjoying the winter Olympics the past couple weeks.  The US skaters haven't brought down the house that we had hoped, but they were of course excellent.  The focus on the Olympics has brought some attention to our local club - Look! Emily made it in the newspaper!!

Valentine's Day

Nothing gets Emily out of bed on a school day quite like presents - in this case, Valentine's Day presents.  So, after her shower, it was time to share a little love.

   

She got a new American Girl outfit, a cute American Girl heart-shaped waffle breakfast set and some Twix hearts.  She was very pleased.  Then we were able to surprise her at school with a little something extra too.  Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, once again we were charged with making a Valentine box to take to school for Valentine's day.  This year we headed to Michael's to get our supplies and Emily also decided it would be fun to craft her box with a friend.  So we invited Kaylyn to sleep over and part of the night was dedicated to Valentine box making.  They sure did have fun and the boxes came out great!

Finally, the kids were learning about circuits in science class and Emily was totally taken.  So we bought her a circuit kit.  She has played and played and played with it.
