College Admissions Updates

Friday, January 30, 2026

Today it was official.  Emily was accepted to all of the schools to which she applied early decision!!!  All seven schools!  Her list of acceptances included:

Arizona State Univ and Barrett Honors College

University of Utah

Miami University

Penn State

University of Colorado Boulder

University of Michigan

and Georgia Tech!

She was over the moon about Michigan and Georgia Tech because they are so hard to get into.  We were not at all sure she could get into those so they were on her "reach" list.  You can only imagine the celebration at our house when she got into Georgia Tech.  Daniel was so happy.  That trouble with GA Tech is that it doesn't really have rink access at all.  I think her top contenders right now are Penn State, CU Boulder and Michigan with honorable mention to Georgia Tech (since she can't skate there).   She also got very nice merit scholarships from Arizona, Utah, Miami and Boulder.  Waiting to hear more from Penn State, Michigan and Boulder on additional scholarships.

She is still waiting to hear from MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Boston University.  Whatever happens with those, and no matter what she chooses, it is great to see how many good choices she has to pick from for this next chapter.  So proud of our girl!

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2026

Happy New Year!  We typically don't do a lot on New Year's Day.  Usually we're cleaning up from the holidays and kind of hunkering down around the house waiting for back to work and school.  But, this year was obviously different.  Daniel and Emily started the year on the slopes!  The best way to start the year, if you ask them.  I hung around the condo and worked on my scrapbook and watched Hallmark movies.  It was all so lovely.  Then, my gift to the family for Christmas, was a sleigh ride to dinner in Sun Valley!  We have never done anything like this so I think everyone was excited.

We started out at the Sun Valley Inn and the rode all the way to Trail Creek Cabin.  Trail Creek Cabin is a mountain-style log cabin originally built in 1937.  It sits right next to Trail Creek and has great views of Bald Mountain.  It is small but extremely cozy and was quite warm with the big wood-burning fire.

Dinner was delicious.  We had a salad course, then soup, an entree and then there was a big buffet of desserts too!  It was really, really lovely.

Then, after dinner, we hopped back into the sleigh (well, truthfully it was more like a wagon) for our return to the resort.  It was such a fun night.  Highly recommend trying it out if you happen to be in Sun Valley during the holidays!
