Picnic in the Park

Saturday, May 18, 2013

This morning we looked out the window and decided it would be a perfect day for a picnic in the park.  So we packed our lunch (and a bag of bread for the ducks) and we set off for Coonskin.

This time of year there are not quite as many ducks and geese at the pond as there usually are later in the summer, but luckily we did find a few...and they were hungry!  Emily even fed a few right from her hand.  She loved it!

We wrapped up our afternoon in the park with a stop to the playground complete with a visit from the ice cream (shaved ice) truck!  It was a fun afternoon!

Show Time!

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Recital day!  Today was Emily's big show!  We were lucky not only to have Mommy and Daddy there to cheer her on, but also Grandma and Grandpa Heintz and Grandma and Granddad Miller too!  So it was a full family affair.

We had great seats and I was so glad we did because Emily was terrific!  She even managed to smile quite a few times during the routine which made my day.  I loved every minute and a selfishly hope she dances again next year.  :-)

Dress Rehearsal

Friday, May 10, 2013

This weekend was also Emily's dance recital.  Friday night was dress rehearsal.  I am glad they do a dress rehearsal because it is the only time we could take pictures of the kids on stage and Daniel really got some good ones this year.  We were not allowed to do any photos or videos during the actual show.

The girls' theme (and song) this year was First Day of School.  They tapped again this year instead of doing ballet.  Emily practiced really hard at home in the evenings over the last few weeks  and really knew her routine very well.  She struggled sometimes to stay with the music (usually rushing a bit) but on show day, she really nailed it.  A bunch of the girls rushed so maybe Emily looked like she was behind at times, but she really wasn't.

I was super proud and it was a great time to show her how all of her hard work and practice really paid off!  It was a great show!!!

Mother's Day Lunch

Friday, May 10, 2013

Bible Center Preschool had a very nice Mother's Day lunch for all the mommies on Friday.  Emily made me a little silver necklace in the shape of a heart with her thumbprint on it and a little card in the shape of her hands that opened into a little heart.  Very cute!

Lunch for the mommies was chicken salad croissants, fruit and crème de menthe brownies.  The kids had lunch meat sandwiches, fruit, chips and brownies.  It was a nice afternoon with my favorite little girl and a great start to Mother's Day weekend.

Emily Ties Shoes

Monday, May 6, 2013

Today was a BIG milestone!  Emily learned to tie shoes!!  She had been practicing - including this weekend on Daddy's shoes while they waited in line for recital tickets. Then, first thing this morning when we arrived at school, the wooden practice shoe was available and she grabbed it.  Shortly after I left (of course) she tied the shoe several times in a row and earned her "I Can Tie My Shoes" Award.

She is super proud of her accomplishment (as you can see) and so am I.

GOOD JOB EMILY!!!

Visit to Meet Nora

Saturday, May 3, 2013

This weekend, I made a quick trip to Boone to meet my new niece, Nora Nicole (and visit Scott and Karen).  It was a very short visit, but I'm so glad I went!  Nora appears to be the exact opposite of Emily as a baby. Nora is very quiet, calm and generally content.  In the 24 hours I was there, I don't think I ever really heard her cry.  She fussed a little here and there, but she was basically calm, quiet or sleeping the entire time I was there.  She is a sweet baby and very, very good.  She is also super cute!  I am in love already!

New Scooter!

Sunday, April 28, 2013

Emily has been asking for a big girl scooter for a while now and I was not sure she was ready, but on a recent visit to Aunt Bonnie & Uncle Nathan's she became attached to Lauren's scooter and I became convinced she was ready.  And she was.  She has it mastered already.  It is sometimes hard to get her off of it to come inside! So proud of her!

Mall Trip

Sunday, April 28 2013

We had to walk through the mall to get to the Civic Center to see the circus on Saturday.  And of course walking through the mall reminded Emily that the mall has a new play place.  So, her request for her Mommy Day today (Daddy was on call) was to go to the mall.  Um, ok, well twist my arm.  I can suffer through a mall trip for the benefit of my daughter.  So, we spent the afternoon at the mall playing, doing a little shopping and having Blizzards at Dairy Queen for a snack.

This series of pictures is kind of funny.  JC Penny's has these funny mannequins all over the store.  I pointed them out to Emily and she loved them - so much so that we had to take her picture in front of all of them.  She laughed and laughed as she looked through the pics and every time we came across another one, she laughed even more...and we took another picture.  Kinda silly I guess, but then again, so was Emily imitating a mannequin.
