Last Trip to Neighborhood Pool

This was likely our last pool trip to our neighborhood pool for the year. Check out our one last cannonball video (Daddy & Emily together) below! We'll miss the next two weekends at our pool because next weekend we will be in Myrtle Beach and the following weekend we will be at Cacapon for Dan's family reunion. After that, our pool will close for the season. It was kind of sad to realize that summer really is coming to an end, but on the other hand we have a lot to look forward to this fall too.

Our Bilingual Toddler

Emily was singing her little heart out in the bathtub tonight and I could not hear exactly what she was singing. Then Daddy called me in and told me to listen. Emily was singing a whole song we had never heard her sing before. She said she learned it at school. This little song apparently taught Emily all of her colors in Spanish! Listen closely:

She truly amazes us daily.

Advanced Sing-Along

A few weeks ago, I realized that Emily knew a lot more songs than I thought she did. This is one example. I heard her singing it in the playroom last weekend and I thought it was so cute. I have been trying to get it on video ever since. She stumbles over some of the words sometimes, but when I sing with her, she does pretty well. So, sit back and enjoy Emily's rendition of The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. Just try to ignore my singing. I never claimed to be good.

Bedtime Funny

This is an Emily classic. Tonight we were working through the bedtime routine: bath, books, songs, bed. Well, Emily was having a hard time choosing her books. First she chose some of her Corduroy books. Then she changed her mind and wanted different books. Daddy had to put his foot down and make her choose. She got very whiny. In fact she whined all the way through the first book. Again Daddy was firm with her and asked her what was wrong. The rest you just have to picture. Daddy stood her up on the little bench so she could look him in the eyes and then the following was the dialoge:

Daddy: Emily what's wrong?
Emily: I'm upset with you.
Daddy: Why are you upset with me?
Emily: You made me cry.
Daddy: What did Daddy to do to make you cry?
Emily: You were stern with me.
(Mommy quietly laughing in the background.)
Daddy: You need to use your big girl voice and talk to Daddy.
Emily: (louder with conviction): I'm upset with you Daddy!!

Daddy went on to explain that Emily needed to be a better listener when it was time to choose books. Daddy promised in exchange that he would listen to Emily when she used her big girl voice. All was forgiven and Daddy was permitted to read books. He also got hugs. Mommy is claiming to have acheived favored parent status. Daddy objects. His objections are noted for the record...and are overruled.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

This is Emily's American Idol worthy rendition of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" - a song I did not even know that she knew. I had to bribe her to sing this for the camera. I'm not above bribes. She was singing this as she was lining up her stuffed animals this weekend, but for some reason I could not get this video to upload as part of that post. Oh well.

Corn on the Cob

Finally! A post that does not need an explanation. We recently discovered that Emily can, in fact, eat corn on the cob. Tonight she ate her own ear all by herself. She was very proud of herself. She also devoured a hot dog and a half and a big dish of fruit! She almost ate more than Daddy!

Playing with Stuffed Friends

Emily can spend countless hours playing with her stuffed friends. Last week she took out all of my dish towels, called them mats, and put all of her stuffed friends down for nap. This weekend she raided all my potholders and trivets and lined up all of her stuffed friends on the choo-choo train. They were going on a trip. She must have lined them up and rearranged them about half a dozen times. She spent the better part of an hour on this task.

Saturday Morning Play Date

Emily was invited to her freind Sam's house for a Saturday morning play date. Sam and Emily were in the same class at Carolina Kids Academy until Emily moved over to Primrose this spring and they were best buddies. Even though they do not see each other every day, they remain very good friends. Sam's Dad, Phil, set up the sprinkler in the backyard and the kids had a great time playing in the water. Then he showed them the sprayer feature on the water hose. Boy did they like that! They did really good taking turns spraying each other.

After fun in the sprinklers, Emily, me, Sam, Phil and Joy all sat down to a picnic with hot dogs on the grill, fruit salad and homemade chocolate cupcakes! Emily ate 2 entire hot dogs!! Then the kids got to frost their own cupcakes and put sprinkles on them too. As you can see from the pics, they had a great time...and made quite a mess! What a fun Saturday!

Crazy Hair & Clothes Days at Preschool

This week at Primrose the kids had a wild and wacky week - literally! Wednesday was wacky hair day. Emily was very excited about her wacky hair. I guess maybe I was not that creative about her wacky hair (just 4 pigtails on top of her head) but then again how mcuh can you really do with the hair of a 2 year old? Anyway, she really liked it (carseat picture notwithstanding).

Friday was crazy clothes day so Emily got to wear the new tutu that Grandma Heintz made her. She was very proud to show it off to her friends...especially Carter (even though he is a boy). He seemed impressed. He asked to wear it. Being 2 is great for moments like this.

Trip to Uncle Scott's House

While Mommy and Daddy were having time out in Mexico, Emily was having many adventures with Grandma & Grandpa Heintz, Uncle Scott and Aunt Karen in Boone. They spent many fun filled afternoons at the playground and even found time to pick some wild blackberries. Grandma reported that Emily had to be cut off from the blackberries so that she would not get sick from eating too much fruit. There was also plenty of time for guitar playing with Uncle Scott - Emily's favorite part! A BIG thank you to Uncle Scott and Aunt Karen for hosting Emily & Grandma and Grandpa while we were gone.

Time Out For Mommy & Daddy

We interrupt this Emily blog for an update on Mommy and Daddy. This past week, Emily spent the week with Grandma and Grandpa Heintz visiting Uncle Scott (I'll blog that next) so Mommy and Daddy could vacation in Mexico. We went to the El Dorado Casitas Royale Resort & Spa in Riviera Maya and had a fabulous time. Daddy went scuba diving one day while Mommy suffered at the spa. The other 4 days we did absolutely nothing. We sat at the pool (see below). We ate fabulous food (see above). We sat the beach (see below). We ate more food (see above). We went back to the pool and beach and sat some more. It was all very relaxing and very wonderful. We had a great time. Thank you Grandma & Grandpa Heintz!!!
