Disney on Ice 2017 (Caution: Loads of Pics Ahead)

Today was finally the day - Disney on Ice show day! Since Daddy had to hit the road for his ski trip in Montana, Emily brought Reagan along with us and those two girls had a blast!

This year's show theme was "Dare to Dream" and like always the did clips from different movies. They opened the show this year with some music/scenes from Princess and the Frog - Tiana and Naveen.

Then they switched gears a little and did some scenes from Snow White.  They had the Evil Queen and the Magic Mirror and also the Seven Dwarfs and even the Prince.  All i  could think of when watching this part was last fall at Disney when we got our pictures taken with all Seven Dwarfs at Magic Kingdom.

   

After Snow White, we spent a little time with the beautiful story of Cinderella.  They even brought in Lady Tremaine, Druzilla,  Anastasia, Gus, Perla and their mice friends, the Fairy Godmother, the pumpkin that turned into a carriage, the Grand Duke and of course the Prince!  It was really beautiful!

  

   

   

During intermission, the girls talked me into pretzels, hot dogs and shave ice.  They chose Cinderella cups with Pascal straws.  I was a little surprised that they both actually ate the entire icee!

Act Two was basically the whole Tangled movie with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Mother Gothel, Maximus, and all the crew from the Ugly Duckling too (they've got a dream, after all).  I got so many great pictures of Rapunzel and Flynn that it was hard to narrow it down.  

   

    

One of the most beautiful parts of the show this year was when Rapunzel and Flynn got to climb Rapunzel's "hair" and then and fly through the air.  I also loved the part with the floating lanterns. That is my favorite part of the whole movie and it does not disappoint on ice.

   

Way to go Disney/Feld Entertainment!  Another great show!  See you again next year!  Until then, just a few more pics from my favorite part of the show...

Talk about a once in a lifetime experience!  The Charleston Figure Skating Club had the opportunity to participate in a figure skating clinic with cast members from Disney on Ice while they were in town for their shows this weekend.

They broke the kids and coaches up into 3 groups and taught them pieces of choreography from the actual Disney on Ice show.  Then at the very end, the put the groups together and actually let them try some of the choreography to the music from the show.  Emily loved every minute and I think she was a little sad when it was over.  But, you never know, maybe they'll come back again someday.  Dare to Dream...

All -American Day

Just when I thought I was done posting about Presidents, Emily's class (well, all of third grade) had "All-American Day" the day after President's Day.  The kids had a big picnic with hot dogs, chips and apple pie.  And, get this.  It was 75 degrees and sunny!  The weather was amazing.

After the picnic the kids went inside and did a little show.  They presented a little story and then did all the sign language for God Bless America.  It was really cute.

After the show the teachers announced the winners of Class President and Vice President and Emily won Vice President and her friend Jaxson Richmond w on President!  She got to give her Andrew Jackson speech again in front of all the third grade, all the parents and even one of the first grade classes too!  She was very excited and super proud of herself.  We are very proud of her too!

I don't know why the class photo always lags so far behind the individual kids' school pictures, but they do.  Anyway, Emily's class picture finally arrived.  They are so small - only 10 kids.  There are only 11 kids in the other 3rd grade class.

We're thinking that unless they get a whole bunch of new kids enrolled, there will only be one fourth grade class next year.  Jobs are tough to find here lately and so at least 4 of the kids in this picture are moving at the end of the year due to parents getting new jobs or pursuing other opportunities.  It is sad in a way, but it might be nice for them to have a little bit bigger of a class, too. Especially now that they are older.  Guess we'll see in the fall.

Emily's class has been studying US Presidents in social studies.  A few weeks ago they all got to choose a President, do a report and make tri-fold board.  Then they had to give a presentation on their President to the whole 3rd grade (21 kids). Emily picked Andrew Jackson, the 7th President.  She needed to find some pictures of him and some facts about his early life, his adult life and the things he did as President.  Then her presentation had to be 3-10 minutes.  She worked hard on her presentation and did a great job.  She even handed out little rubber ducks to the kids after her talk and little American flags too.

   

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was pretty low key again this year.  It isn't really a "thing" in our house, but we did get Emily a few small things for the occasion.  As usual, she couldn't wait to get her little gift bag until after she brushed her hair so here she is bed head and all.  Ah, to be 9 again...

I think her favorite part of Valentine's Day this year was getting to wear a non-uniform dress to school for her class party.   She made a cute unicorn box to hold her cards and she handed out little cards with erasers that said "Bee my Valentine."  I think they both came out pretty cute!
