Miami Figure Skating Camp

Wednesday, July 27, 2022

One of Emily's favorite weeks of the summer was finally here - Miami camp!  She has loved this camp since she was just 9 years old.  This year camp ran Wednesday through Sunday so we hit the road on Tuesday night and visited Grandma on the way.  Then on Wednesday we grabbed a quick lunch at Fazoli's (Emily's favorite) and then headed down for check-in.  Four other skaters from our rink were also going to camp too, which was really nice.  We arrived a little later this time so there wasn't much of a line to check in, but there also wasn't much time to unpack.  We did manage to get everything done, but I missed getting a picture in the dorm room.  Sad face.  Still she had a great week!

At the end of the week, Emily got to test her first ice dance!  She worked with Donnie Addair all week and then skated her test with him and she passed!  Welcome to the pattern dance world Emily!

Fun Camp

When Emily got back from Emerge camp, she had just enough time to catch up on some sleep before she was set to be a coach at the ice rink skating fun camp.  These were the camps that Emily used to do when she was little and now she was going to "work" at the camp coaching the new little skaters.  They did a little show on Friday when camp was over and Emily got to skate a program too.  I think she really enjoyed the week!

Emerge Camp

We ended up leaving Sun Valley a day early to get home, do laundry and re-pack Emily for the Bible Center Emerge summer camp.  This was her first year going and she was really excited.  I don't have a lot of pictures (since I did not go) but I did get a few from Emily.  They stayed on the campus of Appalachian Bible College and did their activities through Alpine Adventures and Ace Adventures.  Some of their adventures included a ropes course, duckie boats, the Ace Adventure water park and whitewater rafting.

In the evenings they did their worship services and wow did they look fun!  She had a really wonderful time. I hope she goes back again next summer!

Last Day in Sun Valley

Saturday, July 2, 2022

We saved our biggest adventure for the last - a trip to Red Fish Lake!  We were hoping if we got there early enough in the day we could maybe rent some kayaks or even possibly rent a pontoon.  It took about 90 minutes to get there, but the drive was awesome.  Such a beautiful area!

When we arrived, it was already packed.  We managed to find a parking spot and made a bee line to the dock to see about boat rental options.  They were out of pontoons, but they had a little speed boat so we happily took that and it was just perfect!

Once we got out on the water, we had a chance to just relax and enjoy the beauty of Idaho.  The weather was perfect - low- mid-70's.  So, on the water a sweatshirt was perfect.  We found this great little waterfall spot where we all had a chance to get out and walk on the log across the waterfall.  It was really cool.  Every part of the lake was just gorgeous, and we loved looking up at the peaks on the mountains and still being able to see the snow!

After we finished our time on the boat, we headed back up to the shore for lunch.  We also made time for a stop at the General Store.  We didn't buy anything, but it was cute.

On our way back to the resort, we made a couple of stops at the scenic overlooks.  It is just so hard to pass up those views!

And just like that, our week in Sun Valley was coming to a close.  We had such a fabulous time and discussions were definitely underway to come back for another week later in the summer...

Sun Valley - Day 5

Friday, July 1, 2022

Today was Emily's last day on this ice in Sun Valley.  We started the day with her last lessons with Craig and Jonathon, Not leaving with a double axel, but big improvements on her spins and footwork.  It was a great experience for sure.

Emily & Jonathon

After skating we had a little time for rest and a bite of lunch and then we were off on our bikes to Hailey Coffee Co. for one more round of their amazing frozen frappes.  My favorite was the chocolate peanut butter.

We took a little bit of a wrong turn on our bike ride home and ended up finding this cool creek.  I want that house!!

When we got home, we took a little rest and then got cleaned up for our last dinner at Village Station - our favorite restaurant on site!

Then it was time for the main event - tickets to Sun Valley on Ice!  This year's special guests were Mariah Bell and Ryan Bradley!  We were also excited to see one of her coaches from the week - Craig Heath skate.  It was an exciting bonus that Scott Hamilton opened the show!  He did not skate, but he did all the introductions.  I had a hard time narrowing down the pics to post here because the show was so good!

When the show was over, they even did fireworks for the 4th of July.  Such a fun night!
