Christmas in Martinsburg

Wednesday, December 29, 2022

Our 2021 Christmas fun still wasn't quite over.  Our next Christmas stop was in Martinsburg to see all of Daniel's family.  We were really excited to see everyone - especially Laura and Jacob!  We hadn't seen them since we went to the Homestead back in the summer of 2019!  Charles, Alison, Everett and Griffin were also coming.  Jacob is a senior in high school this year (where does the time go) and Everett is 10 and Griffin is 6.  It is hard to believe how much everyone has grown!  This year Laura also brought Molly - one of her 3 Whippets.  She was very well-behaved and we really liked her.

We did Christmas gifts in two rounds - first with Laura, Jacob, Jane and Steve.  Charles and family were delayed in leaving by a day because the boys had a fever and they needed to Covid test before coming.  We gave Steve a new shirt, Lowe's gift cards and some Seinfeld memorabelia.  He really liked the Seinfeld box.  We gave Jane a sweatshirt, a Patagonia jacket and the Skylight frame (a digital frame that anyone can email photographs to).  The frame seemed to be the hit of Christmas.  Everyone loved sending pics (and even video) to it.

One of the best moments came when Emily started opening her gifts.  The very first box she opened was completely empty!  Nothing at all inside.  It was hysterical!
Lucky for her, all of her other boxes, bags and stockings had gifts inside!  She got fleece lined leggings, a new sweater, earrings, gift cards for Amazon and Lululemon and the universal gift card - CASH!  She must have been very good this year.

Daniel must have been good too because he got new ski poles, a backpack, new socks and more.  I got a pan to bake scones with some mixes, a cool Disney holiday book, a new phone/watch/airpod charging station and some gift cards too!

The next day Charles, Alison, Everett and Griffin arrived and all chaos broke lose!  Just kidding, but wow those boys have energy.  I think they had all their gifts open in 10 minutes!
The good part of the fast unwrapping was that there was lots of time for playing and the weather was unseasonably warm so that meant the kids were all headed out to run off some energy.  They enjoyed a short run followed by 4 Square at the elementary school behind grandma's house.

Later that night, it was time to get out Everett's new game - Risk.  Daniel, Charles, Emily, Everett and Griffin all attempted to play.  It took a while to get the hang of it all, but Emily is confident that she would have won had the game been played to conclusion.
Everyone had a really nice Christmas and it was great to all get to be together...even if not all at the same time.  I so wish we could get together more often.  Maybe in 2022...

A Little More Christmas

 Sunday, December 26, 2021

We didn't get through all of our Christmas fun quite yet so for the day after Christmas the kids painted and decorated little paper mache Christmas trees.

The girls also made time to ice the little 3D gingerbread house cakes that we baked.  The houses came out really cute and with the little bit of icing on them they were even cuter!  Glad all our Christmas fun wasn't over quite yet.

So cute!

Christmas Day 2021

 Saturday, December 25, 2021

Merry Christmas!!  Unlike last year, we did not awake to snow.  In fact, it has been in the upper 50's to low 60's for several days and this morning was no exception.  Cloudy but a very warm welcome to Christmas Day 2021.

The kids slept in later than I thought they would so Zoey got to enjoy her Christmas treats first.

We didn't start opening stockings with the kids until 9:00am!  After we got the stockings opened, we sat down to breakfast: egg nog coffee cake from Christmas Eve morning, egg casserole and gingerbread french toast too.

Then it was time for the main event - Presents Presents Presents and more Presents!

Wesley was hoping for dinosaurs and Angry Birds.  Nora was wishing for all things Jelly Cat and squishable - including a giant squishy bread.  The kids must have been good because all wishes were granted!

High on Emily's wish list this year were new clothes, pjs and some accessories (bracelets, earrings, etc.)  She must have been good too because all of her wishes were granted too!  SHe also got a boot bag for her new ski boots and her big surprise was not one, but 2 paid of Nike Air Force One tennis shoes!  You will be able to see in the pics her great surprise with the shoes. Great Christmas moment!

Daniel was good this year too and received new bike accessories, running shirts, a Star Wars subscription box and a Seinfeld collector's box among other things.  I think he had a nice Christmas too!

I think when I have all the kids here at Christmas I tend to miss the photos of the grown ups.  I did manage to get a few pics of Grandma, though.  She was excited to receive new jeans, a new purse, long underwear and a new bedspread among other nice gifts.  I really only got pics of Scott and Karen with the kids, but it is better than nothing.  I, of course, am not in any of the pics.  I always forget to hand my camera/phone off to others.  Oh well.  I can promise I was there.

After presents were opened we had turkey cranberry sandwiches and potato soup and then it was off to the playground for the kids.  No way were they going to miss out on a warm Christmas Day!  And we could not close out Christmas without a picture of all the cousins together.  They're only little once...and they are oh so cute.  Our very Merry Christmas 2021 is in the books!
