Pusheen Party!

We celebrated Emily's 11th birthday a little early again this year.  Celebrating a little early get us a little further away from the hectic rush of Christmas and also allows Grandma Heintz to come to the party since she is here for Thanksgiving already.  Plus, I get Grandma help for the party.  YAY!

Emily's theme this year was  Pusheen the cat.  He's a lovable fat grey kitty who loves eating junk food and being lazy.  He's an Internet sensation and also the star of Emily's "Pusheen  Box"  subscription that gets her a new box of Pusheen stuff once a quarter.  Since Pusheen loves junk food, that made the party food easy - pizza, popcorn, cookies, cake and donuts.

   

   

Emily invited all the girls in her class at school plus Abby, Josie and Reagan from the neighborhood and Kelsie from the rink.  Of the 14 on the guest list 10 actually made it.  What a great little group they were!

   

   

Once everyone arrived, our first activity was for each girl to paint her very own salt dough Pusheen  ornament.  They all seemed to enjoy this and the kitties came out really cute.

Once all the Pusheens were hung by the chimney with care, it was time for the games.  If Pusheen was little, he would sleep on a marshmallow so we started our fun with a marshmallow toss.  The girls had to catch little mini marshmallows in tiny dixie cups.  They definitely missed more than they caught, but it was fun to watch.  

   

Then we moved to a game featuring Pusheen's favorite treat - donuts!  The girls had to try to eat a whole donut off a string without letting it hit the floor.  Kaylyn was the winner, hands down on this challenge.

Keeping with our food theme, we let the girls try out Pusheen's style of eating - face first, no hands and rather than putting milk in a bowl, we used whipped cream.  Plus, using whipped cream made for some fun pictures.

   

   

In between all the games, the kids went outside (it was in the 60's at her party) and played tag and cops and robbers.  Then it was time for the final game - DIY Pusheen mummies!  The kids wrapped each other up just like Pusheen at Halloween.  This was, hands down, the kids' favorite game.

After all the games, it was time for presents.  Emily got a lot of very nice gifts and several gift cards too.  Mostly though, she was just thrilled to get to spend her afternoon with so many great friends.

Then it was time for party food and cake too! Yum!  If it looks like the Pusheen cake is leaning to the left, yeah it definitely was.  But, it managed to remain upright until it was time to cut it.

   

   

Finally, before everyone hit the road for home we passed out the favor boxes.  Everyone got her very own Pusheen plush friend and a little Pusheen notebook, necklace and cookie too.  I could not resist one more group photo of the girls with their new kitties.  Such a fun party!

Thanksgiving 2018

It's hard to believe another year has passed since we sat around the table with the Thanksgiving turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all of the other yummy parts of the tastiest day of the year.  Daddy was on call on Wednesday, but luckily he was home in the evening and was able to sleep and enjoy a full day of Thanksgiving fun.  Zoey got some sleep too which is good because Thanksgiving is Zoey's favorite holiday.

I spent some time on Thanksgiving brushing up on my photography skills and, lucky for me, I had a couple of cooperative subjects...of course one was more patient than the other.

   

   

Reagan and Emily even found time to decorate a gingerbread turkey at one point...who knew that was even a thing?

   

Then over the course of the weekend, we also enjoyed baking, shopping, relaxing and lots and lots of Hallmark Christmas movies.  I just could not resist the matching shirts.  :-)
