Louisville Competition

Friday & Saturday, March 16 - 17, 2017

We were back on the road this weekend for figure skating.  This time we were headed to Louisville for competition!  Luckily, teacher conferences were Friday so Emily didn't have school.  We hit the road pretty early and arrived in Louisville to check into our hotel about 2:00.  There wasn't much downtime, though because practice ice started at 2:40 and we had to meet Grandma and Grandpa and Kelsie and her family for an early dinner at 4:30.

After dinner at Fazoli's it was time to change and get ready for freeskate.  Emily was especially excited for this competition because she got to debut her new dress!  And oh my it was very beautiful.  No time for admiring, though because Kelsie skated at 5:30 and Emily skated at 6:00.

This was by far the best Emily has skated her freeskate.  Her jumps looked stronger and her spins were cleaner - AND she smiled and really performed!  These handful of pictures really tell the story.

Despite the fact that both Emily and Kelsie skated beautifully, they both had to settle for 4th.  Still they were both very happy.

After freeskate it was time to change and head to the indoor pool for a little swim.  Then it was off to bed.  Early in the morning Emily had her compulsory routine and jumps and Kelsie had compulsory and her pattern ice dance.
This time Emily finished third in jumps!

She finished 4th in compulsory and ended up taking home a whole load of medals.  While she certainly wished she could have placed higher, she was very pleased with how she skated overall.

And - the Charleston Figure Skating Club ended up winning the competition for having earned the most medals overall!  Wish we could have stayed until the end for this fun celebratory moment, but we had to hit the road to get back for Bunny Brunch the next morning in Charleston.
