Fun with Emily: Space Camp 2021

After missing out on Space Academy in 2020, Emily was extremely excited to get to go to Space Academy this year. We arrived in Huntsville very late on Friday night and spent all day Saturday touring the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. And this year Daniel got to come too! It had been more than 30 years since he was on campus of Space Camp.

It is worth noting that it was very chilly today! Only about 65 for the high. Very different than the weather we have had here every other year we've been here. Anyway, we started our tour with space in pop culture and then a cool drone exhibit too.

We lucked out and were able to get 2 tickets for Daniel and Emily to do the Apollo 11 virtual reality experience. They had the chance to blast off and land on the moon. They both agreed it was a really cool experience.

After this experience we toured more of the exhibits and then grabbed some lunch in the Mars Cafe. Then we were able to get tickets for a planetarium show - spring skies. When we all got back to the hotel, we agreed that show was our favorite part of the trip.

Then it was time for Daniel and Emily to take on the Multi-Axis Trainer - a hallmark of Space Camp. They both did really well and were able to ride the full mission.

We finished up our tour in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration where the Saturn V is on display. It is always amazing to see...and you really cannot get it all in one picture. We probably spent the most time here since it is where all the really cool space stuff is. Note the space rock, below. Cool, huh?

The next morning, it was time for registration and check-in for camp! Before checking in, we had the chance to stop into the planetarium for one more show - Space Explorers, a movie about life aboard the ISS. It was super interesting and all really filmed on the ISS. Then, we got Emily registered and all moved in. She was so excited!
