Today we got to see more of Hawaii by air - in a helicopter! We picked a tour that was supposed to take us to the top of Haleakala crater. Unfortunately, the clouds did not cooperate and we couldn't really get to the top. But we still saw a lot of cool volcanic features.
Then we headed out over the water a bit and got to see Molokini Crater from the air. It was spectacular! And it was super cool to see it from the air because later in the week we planned a snorkeling trip there and we were going to get to see it up close and in person!
Then we flew back toward land to see some more amazing waterfalls and some rainbows too! It was all just so beautiful - again, how is it that there are places that look like this literally 365 days a year!
When we got back to the resort we were ready for some lunch and pool/beach time and some time to really walk around the resort. We had barely seen it and we had already been there 2 nights!
For dinner, we really wanted to try to go back to Front Street. We had happy memories of our last visit there when we had Daniel's birthday dinner at Lahaina Grill and shopped for sheets at Cariloha. Unfortunately, there were really, really bad fires here in August 2023 and a lot of Front Street burned. Lahaina Grill burned and never reopened. Most of Front street is still gone. But, we found a new place that miraculously did not burn, called Mala Ocean Tavern and we had dinner there. It was amazing! It was literally right on the water - waves crashed very near the tables closest to the back corner of the patio and we got a table just a little bit up from that. It was really cool. And Emily discovered Ube bread.! The food was great. It was my favorite dinner location of the trip.
