Winterfest 2018

Saturday, December 1, 2018

What you couldn't see from the Great Wolf pictures, is that it rained alllll day and the forecast for the evening was  90% chance of more rain.  Amazingly though, just about 4:00pm, the skies cleared a bit and the rain stopped.  We were thrilled and we headed straight to the park - just in time for skating on the International Street Fountain!

If you look closely in the first picture below, you can see the standing water on the ice from all the rain.  That presented an interesting challenge, but it didn't seem to bother the girls too much.  They skated their entire 90 minute session and managed to sneak in a few tricks, spins and jumps when the ice monitors weren't looking.

After skating, it did start raining a little again so we took that opportunity to go in and get some dinner.  We went to the Fest Haus and watched a cute Christmas show while we ate.

After dinner, we headed out to ride a couple of rides.  We hit Mystic Timbers first and then a couple of rides in Planet Snoopy.

Daddy in the snowglobe!!
After a few rides we decided it was time to go to Mrs. Claus's Kitchen for cookie decorating.  The weather may not have been ideal, but it sure kept the crowds away and it wasn't super cold so it turned out to be a pretty great night.

While we were in the midst of decorating, a HUGE thunderstorm blew  through.  The thunder was  so loud that we all jumped.  Luckily, it was a very short lived storm and by the time we were finished with our decorating, the rain and storm were gone.  Then it was very clear what our next task needed to be...
YUM! Mrs. Claus makes the best cookies and we made the best decorations!
Just a few more pics from our amazingly lucky weather night.  I just love Winterfest.  I hope they have it for many years to come.  So much winter family fun!
