Well, this was it. Her first competition with an axel in her program. Actually, not just one axel, but six axels! She started off on Friday night competing in jumps. She had an exel combination in her program. She missed the first one, but her second one was much better. Slightly under-rotated, but a solid effort for her first time. She ended up in third and she was thrilled.
Then Saturday morning was compulsory moves. It too, had an axel in it. Again a strong effort and she stayed on her feet! She was actually put into the well-balanced compulsory by mistake, instead of Excel, but since there were only 2 skaters she decided she would just stay there and skate up. All of her elements looked really good and in the end it came down to the axel. So, she was second.
Then her final event was her new Robin Hood Overture freeskate. This was her first time skating this program in competition. It had 2 axels and a sit/back sit spin and really complicated footwork. She worked really hard to get ready and she had an excellent program. Her first axel was a little short, but again she managed to stay on her feet and keep going. Super proud! Ultimately she finished 4th overall, but only by .01 and she was only .2 out of second place. So there is no doubt she was in the right group. Just wait. Once she has that axel, look out!!!
