Well, this is likely our only Canaan trip this season. Scheduling is such that the other dates don't work for us. Senior year, it seems, keeps us very busy. But, luckily, I think December Canaan is our favorite. Friday night when we arrived was a little rough. It was super cold (15 degrees, but felt like temp was 5) and the wind was awful - gusts of 40+ mph. So, the kids ran the group numbers a couple of times and that was it. No one came to the show, so the kids went straight to pizza and cupcakes.
Saturday was much better. The sun was out and the afternoon highs were in the 40s. We started the day with a trip to Tip Top and the cute little Christmas Shop and the girls set up a photo shoot.
After coffee and treats, we headed back to the rink and the girls got ready for the afternoon show...in much better weather.
The girls skated a group number and a finale and Emily skated her solo. It was a small group this year so the show went fast, but all the skaters were very good and they had a big crowd watching!
After the show, the group went to White Grass Cafe for lunch. Emily and I absolutely do NOT like this place, but it is what it is. We went. Then after lunch, the girls took naps and I watched a Christmas movie. Then it was time for the evening show. Again there was a really good crowd and Emily (and all the skaters) skated great.
This was definitely a great last trip for the season. But, who knows, maybe there will be another opportunity for another visit next Christmas, while Em is home from college. A mom can dream.
