Cacapon Trip 2014

Saturday, September 5, 2014

The end of summer means that it is time for the Kohler family (Dan's mom's family) reunion.  We have come to call it our family camping trip because it is as close to camping as this family is likely to ever get.  Sorry, Em.  You were born to a family of hotel rather than tent lovers.
We were lucky to get good weather this year so the kids could be outside playing. We started our morning off at the playground.  This year, Emily's American Girl doll got to come along too.
We played at the playground until about 11:00 and then we headed over to the paddle boats.  My favorite part of the trip.  Now that the kids are bigger it is definitely more fun.  Laura and Andy went on a horseback ride so we took Jacob with us on the boats.  He and Emily had a blast.

After our boating fun, we headed up to the inn for lunch and to see the rest of the family.  Sadly, Grandma Gamble was unable to make the trip so we missed her for sure.  We let all the kids run around at the inn for a little while and then we got them ready to go to the beach.

It is nice when the Cacapon trip falls early in September because the beach area is still open.  I am worried that since Labor day falls late next year we might not be so lucky.  The kids just love playing in the water and sand.
After a swim, we got the kids bathed and changed and then we went up to the Lodge for shuffleboard and video games.  A lot of the games were broken this year, but they still had fun.  After games, we headed back to the cabins for a birthday cookout for Jane and Steve.  This year we really celebrated with Steve because he turned the big 7-0!!

After dinner (and cake) we let the kids toast marshmallows and make s'mores.  Then they ran off all their energy chasing Everett all around the cabin!
